The Benefits of Exfoliating Your Skin

The Benefits of Exfoliating Your Skin

Polish your way to younger, brighter, and smoother skin with one simple step: EXFOLIATE

Do you ever have those days where your skin is feeling dull and lacking its glow? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one because we all have those days! A simple but important step that we tend to overlook in our skin care routine is EXFOLIATING. Some also know it as “polishing” your skin, but this is the key to younger, brighter and smoother skin.

Everyday the surface of our faces build up dead skin cells, which in time leads to dullness, uneven complexion, and facial lines that become more detectible. I mean…who wants that? But by exfoliating or polishing the skin regularly, we remove that build up and allow our skin’s natural radiance to come through, which also leads to smoother and more even skin texture.

Aside from having that red carpet glow, here are the other reasons why you should start exfoliating the skin:

  • Improved texture of the skin, barrier function, and moisture retention (aka goodbye dry skin)
  • Reduced fine lines, wrinkles, surface pigmentation, and enlarged pores
  • Smoother and softer skin texture
  • Helps product penetration
  • Improved skin conditions such as acne, hyperpigmentation, clogged pores, and dry skin
  • Potentially stimulating elastin and collagen production
  • Increased cell renewal factor, hydration, and intercellular lipid (goals for skin preservation)

Glowing skin isn’t hard to achieve, the key is maintenance. You have two choices when it comes to exfoliating the skin, mechanical or chemical. Treatments such as microdermabrasion or products that contain tiny grains such as the ZO Exfoliating Polish (one of my absolute favourites) are mechanical polishers. Treatments such as chemical peels with enzyme-based ingredients which digest the dead skin cells are chemical polishers. Whatever your preference may be, both methods will give you that youthful, radiant skin that you’re looking for.

Last but not least, if you’re like me and have trouble with adding steps to your skincare routine, start by exfoliating your skin 2-3 times a week in the morning to start stimulating the skin. Then from there, treatments once every 4 weeks are suggested for optimal results to remove the build-up of dead skin cells, to give our skin a more awake and energized look.

Our skin is the greatest investment we can give ourselves, so let’s start by glowing from the inside out!

Stay Beautiful,
