Chemical Peels

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a popular skin resurfacing procedure involving the targeted application of an acid-based solution that improves various aspects of the skin's texture and appearance.

Chemical peels can be performed at various depths and strengths depending on the treatment objectives of the patient. They can be used on many areas of the body, but are most commonly used on the face, neck and chest to treat fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, and improve overall skin radiance and hydration.

A chemical peel's results include smoother, stronger, and younger-looking skin, as well as enhanced cell turnover.

How do Chemical Peels work?

A chemical peel works by increasing the acidity of the epidermis, chemically loosening the bonds (or “glue”) that hold dead and damaged cells onto the surface of your skin. This allows for enhanced exfoliation as the epidermis is partially removed through the mechanism of “peeling” in the days following the procedure. This process also stimulates natural cell turnover processes that slow as we age, helping to rapidly unveil healthy, new, radiant and glowing skin.

At The Vanity Lab, medium-depth chemical peels are one of our most popular procedures. A medium-depth peel penetrates beyond the epidermis to reach the papillary dermis where growth factors, collagen and elastin are then released during the body’s natural healing processes. These are key elements to keeping the skin firm, elastic and youthful.

As we offer several different types of chemical peels at The Vanity Lab, your treating specialist will review your goals with you before beginning each session to ensure the most suitable peel has been chosen. With a series of chemical peels, you can quickly achieve substantial improvement to the tone, texture, clarity, and appearance of your skin.

Indications for Chemical Peels:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Acne
  • Congested skin
  • Large pores
  • Oil control
  • Scars
  • Photodamage and sunspots
  • Melasma
  • Lentigines (liver spots)
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Dull complexion

How many Chemical Peels do I need?

At The Vanity Lab, we do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to skincare. This is why we place such emphasis on the importance of an initial consultation. During this comprehensive consultation, our experts will gain insight into your preferences, concerns, lifestyle, goals and expectations as well as obtain precise and tangible measurements of your skin’s current condition so we can track your progress.

In doing so, they are then able to perfectly curate a bespoke skin health program tailored to your unique needs. Your program will not only include specific recommendations on how many treatments you will require and the ideal time intervals but will also include the best medical-grade home care products on the market to enhance and maintain your results

With the above information in mind, and as a very general guideline, chemical peels can be done as an intensive course of 4-6 treatments at 4-week intervals, or every 2-3 months for maintenance.

When will I see results from a Chemical Peel?

Many patients are pleased to see results within 7-14 days following their chemical peel procedure but please keep in mind that it is typical to require a series of peels for optimal results.

Regular chemical peel treatments will maintain skin health, improve skin complexion and promote nourished skin with an all-year-round glow.
